Durham Forest

Vast and beautiful … a day at Durham Forest!

This past Sunday, we spent our afternoon hiking the more leisurely trails (Baby Butter and Big Butter) of Durham Forest. We snapped photos, admired the mountain and fat bikes, and flew Scott’s new Dji Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter Drone. It was snowing off-and-on, making it a bit challenging, but still worth the adventure!

According to Ontario Trails, “This forest encompasses a 405 hectare area that is located at the top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and is renowned for its excellent cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.”

The trails are also great for families – we saw a number of dog walkers, small children, and sledders, but unfortunately, not any wildlife.

  1. What a wintry blast, Emily. I would have been in heaven (we’re still waiting for snow…though it is now finally below freezing in temps).

  2. What a wonderful day for a walk in the forest Emily… i love your mukluks… are they original Aboriginal footwear…
the picture of you and Scott taken from the drone is cool…
we have a bit more snow than you do….peter:)

    1. Thanks Peter! The boots are actually starting to fall apart, I’ve had them for a decade – can you believe it! And no, not original. I got them from Footlocker! Ha! But I would be interested in finding new ones that look similar, if you have any suggestions!
