East Coast Trip: Prince Edward Island (Pt.2)

As mentioned in my previous post, Prince Edward Island was my favourite spot on the East Coast.

For the past couple of days, I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly made PEI so special. My answer:  its fresh, farm air, colourful fields, calming beaches, and red sand.

Coming from Toronto, I am constantly looking at high-rises, grand buildings, busy, traffic congested streets and a bustling downtown. But sometimes its nice to reflect and reconnect with the world – something I did while enjoying the scenery of Prince Edward Island.

For my second post, I want to focus on my experience in the capital.

During my stay in PEI, I stayed in Charlottetown – the best choice, considering there’s lots to do in the downtown (ie., restaurants, parks and the waterfront), along with a slew of bed and breakfasts and hotels. But what I remember most about this “busy” city is the cuisine. Shying away from seafood for more than a decade, I experienced my first lobster at Lobster on the Wharf (2 Prince St., overlooking the water) and oyster at Sim’s Corner Steakhouse and Oyster Bar (86 Queen St., on the downtown strip).

We also managed to find time to stop by the Prince Edward Island Brewing Company, watch the sunset at Brighton Beach Range Lighthouse (shining towards the entrance of the Charlottetown harbour) and wander the downtown to capture the city’s nightlife.

  1. Even more wonderfully scenic photos! Looks like you all had a fabulous time. This is going to sound super lame, but I’ve wanted to visit PEI ever since my childhood obsession with Anne of Green Gables. These photos make me want to visit even more! Maybe one day I’ll make it happen.

  2. Mmmm… I love oysters 🙂
Wow, having lobster on the wharf must be an unforgettable experience!

    > I just realized you speak many languages! How many?

    Four. 😉

    > I do plan to go back within the next few years … would you suggest this for a tourist?

Bradford on Avon is located not far away from Bath.
Have you been there? Do Bath first then.
It’s one of my favourite cities in England. 🙂

    1. I didn’t find oysters too bad. I think the texture was hard to get through, but the taste was fine. For someone scared of seasfood, I had a great experience at Sim’s Corner.

  3. I enjoyed reading part 2 of your PEI adventure. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I’m sure there was a little sadness when it was time to leave. Loved your photos! What a beautiful place! 🙂

  4. i love the pictures of the lighthouse with the golden sky behind it Emily… and it is nice of you to let me know where i can find the liquor store… great night shot….peter:)

    1. Of course, Peter. Couldn’t stop by PEI without trying their fantastic beers. PEI Brewing Co. is THE best! Plus, they’re really well priced.

  5. I would have loved absolutely EVERYTHING except the oysters…but then, I have a feeling I’ll go to my grave without ever being willing to try them (sad but true). I would especially like the lighthouse, the lobster and the beer! 🙂

    1. I got a ton of surprised reactions when I told people I had oyster — considering I am not a seafood enthusiast when I’m home here in Toronto. BUT I figured, the east coast is known for this stuff … so it was time to face my fears, and go all in! Both restaurants were suberb … and I’m really proud. 🙂

    1. You won’t regret it! Plus, you’re great with landscape photos … I think this would be a prime location for your photography. 🙂
